To determine the worst cities for women in Wyoming, we used four key categories: percentage of women in management positions, percentage of women living in poverty, the gender pay gap, and the percentage of uninsured women. Each category was scored out of a possible 25 points, with a total maximum score of 100.

Cities were then ranked based on their overall scores, with higher scores indicating a better environment for women. The percentage of women in management positions was calculated using data from the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (ACS).

This category was scored based on the percentage of women in management, professional, and related occupations, which includes roles such as CEOs, lawyers, and doctors. A higher percentage of women in these positions indicates greater opportunities for career advancement and leadership roles.

The percentage of women living in poverty was also calculated using data from the ACS. However, to further understand the poverty rates of women in the cities, we also focused on the percentage of women living alone with no relatives as an additional factor.

Women who live alone face unique challenges such as lack of support and a higher cost of living, and can be more vulnerable to poverty. The gender pay gap was calculated using Census data and compared the median earnings of women and men who work full-time.

This category scored cities based on the smallest pay gap, as a smaller gap indicates greater pay equity. Lastly, the percentage of uninsured women was calculated using data from the Kaiser Family Foundation’s State Health Facts.

We focused on uninsured rates among women, as women’s health is a critical issue, and having access to affordable healthcare is essential for their overall well-being.

Powell

Powell ranked as the worst city for women in Wyoming, scoring low across all categories. Roughly 27% of the women in town live in poverty, which contributed to

Powell’s low ranking.

The city scored a 7.5 out of 25 points in this category.

Powell also had a high percentage of uninsured women, which contributed to its ranking of 9 out of 10 in this category.

Powell scored just 5 points out of 25 for the category of percentage of women in management. In terms of the gender pay gap category,

Powell’s score was just slightly higher than the average, with a score of 11.5 out of 25 points.

The median earnings of women in

Powell who work full-time is about 84% of men’s earnings. While this score is not the lowest in the state, the discrepancy is still significant.

Evanston also scored low for the percentage of women living in poverty category. Around 15% of the women in

Evanston live in poverty, and the city was awarded a score of 13 out of 25 for this category.

Rawlins scored just 8.5 out of a possible 25 points in the percentage of women in management category.

However, the city received a low score from high uninsured rates for women, with just 7 out of 25 points. The high uninsured rates among women can be a significant challenge for
